Apparent evidences in the prohibition of terrorism

Praise be to Allah , who bestowed Islam as a religion upon His slaves, and made it His last immortal message until the Day of Resurrection, which He legislated all that benefits people in this world and the Hereafter, and warned them of all what corrupts their religion and harms their interests; He forbade them from injustice and aggression, protecting with this their community from disorder, corruption, oppression and abuse, and warded the five essentials of mind, lineage, honor, religion, and wealth, from any violation and set strict penalties on whoever assaults these necessities, whether these necessities belonged to Muslims, or treaty makers, since they have the same rights as Muslims.

In this sense, Islam completely rejects terrorism in all its forms; since it is based on vice and aggression , the intimidation of innocent people, destruction of their interests and benefits, life necessities, their property, honor, freedom and human dignity, and because it is an attack directed against guiltless men, women and children, or a threat to attack, or any other means of harassment and assault, or to destabilize the security of society.

And it’s taboo to commit terrorism or contribute to it, by any means, whether by plotting it or covering up for its masterminds and harboring them, providing them with financial support; all of this is banned on citizens, governments and institutions, for it is a heinous crime and a hurdle in the way of urbanization and economic development.

Furthermore, Islam is the religion of mercy, compassion, peace and security, and consequently urges Muslims to stay away from all that disrupts them, or cause violence and terrorism and the use of force. Even more so, Islam has forbidden harming one’s own soul by forbidding suicide, Allah says: “And be not cast by your own hands to ruin”[1] The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: “Whoever kills himself with an iron weapon, will be carrying that weapon in his hand and stabbing his abdomen with it in Hell’s Fire wherein he will abide eternally forever; whoever drinks poison and kills himself with it, he will be carrying his poison in his hand and drinking it in Hell’s Fire wherein he will abide eternally forever; whoever purposely throws himself from a mountain and kills himself, will be in Hell’s Fire falling down into it and abiding therein perpetually forever.”[2]

Likewise, Islam condemned and rejected violence and terrorism, and warned us of its painful and severe consequences, even if it’s meant just as a joke, Amir b. Rabia, said: “that a man took another man’s shoe and concealed it as a joke, he then mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, to which the Prophet said: ‘Do not intimidate a Muslim, for intimidating a Muslim is severe injustice.’”[3]

In another Hadith the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: “A Muslim is not allowed to frighten another Muslim.”[4]

Thus, Islam forbade harming one’s self, and made it’s penalty burning in an eternal Hell, then what of the murdering innocent people, and using violence and terrorism against them?

In a third Hadith, the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: “Whosoever gazes at a Muslim with a gaze that unjustly frightens him, Allah will frighten him on the Day of Resurrection.”[5]

In a fourth Hadith, the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: “Whoever points out an iron weapon at his brother, the angels curse him until he stops, even if he is his sibling, from his (blood)-father and mother.”[6]
In the fifth Hadith, the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: “None of you should point towards his Muslim brother with a weapon, for he does not know, Satan may tempt him to hit him and thus he would fall into a pit of Fire,”[7] among other Hadiths.

Likewise, in its doctrine and legislations, Islam emphasizes that social relations between people have to be through helping one another in righteousness and piety, and out of sin and transgression, Allah said: “..but help ye one another unto righteousness and pious duty . Help not one another unto sin and transgression.”[8] Islam also stressed out the sanctity of life, forbidding bloodshed except for justice, and that no one is better than the other; Allah said: “And that ye slay not the life which Allah hath made sacred, save in the course of justice,”[9] and the Messenger of Allah said:”The blood of a Muslim who bears witness that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger is sacred except in three cases: a previously married adulterer, a soul for a soul, and the apostate who leaves the community.”[10] Allah also emphasized the sanctity of human life as well, and made any assault on it akin to an attack on mankind as a whole, and considered the one saving one soul akin to saving all souls. Allah said: “For that cause We decreed for the Children of Israel that whosoever killeth a human being for other than manslaughter or corruption in the earth, it shall be as if he had killed all mankind, and whosoever saveth the life of one, it shall be as if he had saved the life of all mankind. Our messengers came unto them of old with clear proofs (of Allah’s Sovereignty), but afterwards lo! many of them became prodigals in the earth.”[11]

Moreover, Islam also indicates that a Muslim’s money is as sacred as his blood and honor. Therefore, robbing his house, money, shop, or coercively seizing it is completely forbidden.

It was narrated from Aisha that the Messenger of Allah peace be upon him said: “He who was unjust by an inch, will be shackled of the seven earths.”[12]

Abu Hurayrah said: “The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, ‘A Muslim is the brother of a fellow Muslim – he neither betrays him nor lies to him nor deceives him, all that is a Muslim’s is forbidden to other Muslims: his honor, money and blood.”[13]

Injustice and abuse is utterly forbidden on Muslims with Muslims, non-Muslims, and all creatures. The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: “You will give back rights to their owners on the Day of Resurrection, even the hornless sheep will take its right from the sheep that has horns.”[14]

Furthermore, Islam prohibits killing a treaty-maker, who lives in an Islamic country with a pledge and a treaty between Muslims and non-Muslims, and his security must be ensured until the treaty ends and no one is allowed to assault him, for Islam ensures the security of his blood, money and honor, and whoever attacks him betrays Islam and deserves to be punished. Allah said: “Allah forbiddeth you not those who warred not against you on account of religion and drove you not out from your homes, that ye should show them kindness and deal justly with them. Lo! Allah loveth the just dealers.”[15] The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: “The one who kills a treaty-maker will never see the scent of Paradise,”[16] and he also said: “The believer still has capacity in his religion, as long as he doesn’t shed forbidden blood.”[17]

Also, justice is a must with Muslims and non-Muslims, even if they are treaty-makers, or the ones who have been ensured safety. Allah said: “and let not hatred of any people seduce you that ye deal not justly. Deal justly, that is nearer to your duty.”[18] And Allah said:” O ye who believe! Be steadfast witnesses for Allah in equity, and let not hatred of any people seduce you that ye deal not justly. Deal justly, that is nearer to your duty. Observe your duty to Allah. Lo! Allah is Informed of what ye do.”[19] Hence, murder and assault is forbidden, and Islam is innocent of these fiendish criminal terrorist deeds.

Thus, the slanders and lies that the some Western media agencies attribute to Islam, that Islam calls for violence and extremism, and encourages it, are all groundless, because Islam condemns violence, terrorism, and unjustly attacks on others, and calls for peace and peaceful coexistence.

To conclude, Muslims, both rulers and ruled, should work together, in one hand to fight these destructive ideas and criminal acts that target religion, security, economy, stability of the nation, and sow hatred and spread misery. They also have to cooperate and work together along with governors and Security forces to maintain the rightful Islamic doctrine, battle terrorism, refute falsehood, and advise the nation, all in the rightful ways and best methods, with the help of science, wisdom and insight, instead of emotions, passions and reactions.
